We’ve been showcasing cool tools at work

These are great examples of how to save time and ensure tool-changing accuracy. Hainbuch chucks and mandrels let you convert the chuck to an expanding mandrel in two minutes or less with no setting up required. With a little practice you can do a chip-to-chip changeover in under 3 minutes. This flexibility allows machining very small volumes with no cost penalty from changeover. Stark and Schunk both offer zero point systems to allow quick, highly accurate changeover of vices, chucks, fixtures etc on vertical, horizontal and 5-axis machines. These systems use springs to clamp, air or oil to unclamp, so fail-safe if power is cut. Extremely accurate positioning means no setup required. Imao One Touch clamps work to position, hold or lock in an easy quarter turn in numerous styles. The range includes shaft locks, linear units and adjusters for untold applications like adjustable conveyor guides, guards, hatches, sub fixtures –you name it.

Great industry trade shows this year

Two major shows in Melbourne, Auspack and Austech, had us hopping in March and May. We focused on bringing the latest gripping and clamping products to market –with terrific feedback.

One of the product heroes was the Soft Robotics gripper demonstration with human hand-like flexibility but offering pick rates of 90/minute with a lifespan suitable for high volume production. This USA-based company has seen global recognition for its outstanding systems, and has been well received by many innovative companies in Australian automation.

THE $30K INSTANT ASSET WRITE-OFF COULD HELP YOU

Equipment or asset purchases are written off in the year they are first used or installed ready-for-use. The recent increase from $20,000 to $30,000 applies to purchases from 2 April 2019 to 30 June 2020. This can be a helpful incentive to update or retool production facilities.
