Secure tool fixing with new Roemheld Wedge Clamp

A real safety breakthrough in new wedge clamping technology for presses and punches was recently announced by the ROEMHELD Group (GmbH). The wedge clamp innovation boasts a patented bolt with positive-locking safety step, which can safely hold even heavy top tools during pressure drops or maintenance work on the tool.

Automatic movements, position control of the clamping bolt and the built-in safety step are all hallmarks of this reliable, easy-to-monitor clamping tool.  It can be used on a pressing tappet with angled clamping edges.

Top tool halves safely secured during a pressure drop

The wedge clamp is made up of a hydraulic block cylinder and a housing-guided bolt with a contact surface angled by 20°. A step in the form of a “lug” on the clamping bolt and a corresponding adapter on the tool clamping edge provide additional safety.

If there is a drop in pressure at the pressing tappet for any reason, the top tool descends onto the safety step and, with the adapter, forms a positive-locking connection that secures the screws and tool in place. A position control also checks the clamping and releasing position of the bolt and also reports if no tool has been placed or the clamping edge is not set correctly.

Retrofits made easy with flexible, adjustable clamping materials and adapters

The wedge clamp elements are designed as a variant system, allowing customers to choose from design options. Elements with a single or dual function, exerting clamping forces from 25 to 1250 kN, are available for straight and angled clamping edges. The wedge clamps can also be used virtually maintenance-free thanks to permanent lubrication. Multi-layer, high-tech coatings can also be applied on request to the bolts and housing in order to reduce wear and tear during challenging applications. Corresponding adapter plates can be simply attached to existing tools.
